Johanna Johnson

From the happiest day of a woman’s life to a glamorous glide down the Red Carpet, Johanna Johnson has couture and bridal covered. Designer and director of the fashion and lifestyle brand, Johanna Johnson specialises in inspirational and elegant gowns, known for their Hollywood sophisticated style, photo-moment glamour and timeless appeal.Inspiration to create the high fashion line came when looking for her own wedding gown. After countless mediocre in-store and design experiences, she settled on her own design. It was here that Johanna identified the need for a couture collection that epitomised simplicity, grace and style – which also has a focus on personal service and client care throughout the potentially stressful experience.

Within two years, Johanna Johnson couture went from concept to reality. Johanna opened her first Paddington store in April 2005 and quickly established an international following. Brides from Europe, the USA, the South Pacific and New Zealand are wearing Johanna’s gowns, sold exclusively from her flagship store in Paddington, Sydney Australia. She is now fielding calls from international celebrities, with the likes of Christina Hendricks, Nina Ricci, Kim Kardashian, Hailee Steinfeld, Julia Ormond, Caroline Sherman, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Leah Michelle, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Emily Blunt, Julia Stiles, and Minnie Driver calling on Johanna Johnson for red carpet gowns.

New Zealand raised, Johanna is no stranger to design. She often made her own clothes and formal gowns. She moved to Australia in 1989, to study Graphic Design in Melbourne. After completing her diploma she moved to London for several years and worked on the international branding and advertising campaigns of highly respected and prestigious companies such as Moet and Chandon, Hilton International Hotels and the Independent Television Commission.

Since the inception of the label, Johanna has launched five collections; ‘Premiere’, ‘Illume’, ‘Betrothed’, ‘Adorn’, ‘Zepphora’ and her most recent collection ‘Trousseau Limited Edition’. Inspired by the heady nights of the 20’s and 30’s where the evening shone with crystal beads and a room wasn’t complete without the scent of violets and jasmine, these latest creations combine romance with elegance, sophistication and old world glamour.

Hours spent trawling through Parisian flea markets and old lace houses in the French summer are inspiration for Johanna’s unique collections. She sources her exquisite laces, trims and finishes whilst designing the jewel encrusted centrepieces and embellishments all while she is away.

2010 marked the release of Johanna’s new Trousseau accessory line, created to compliment and enhance her collection. Johanna has designed a selection of veils, gloves, stoles, headpieces and vintage cuffs that can be worn at any special occasion. 2011 will reveal the Johanna Johnson lifestyle range.
